Just bought the Lightning Launcher an hour ago, switching from Buzz Launcher …

I’m trying to customize the app drawer into a tile-wall in which the tiles of different size fill the screen and each tile (with customized icons) is actually a folder containing the apps..

My question is, can I crop-fit the icon to fit the item size? For example, I selected a portrait jpg, I want to zoom and crop the icon to only show the head. So far I can only manage to have the icon shown-all, or if i use the scale/inner scale it can only show a specific portion of the icon depending on the alignment settings.

I have a feeling that I just haven’t found the setting to customize the icon yet. Can anyone help point me the right direction? Thanks!

  1. I mean, simply way. You can set different grid, for examle: 6×5 for portrait layout, 10×3 for landscape layout. Settings/layout and in this window on to select only portrait, set what you need, and select only ladscape layout. And maybe enable last option, dualposition to yes.

  2. And you can open in app drawer/ sorting my drawer, doing long tap on some app, go to edit mode, and on bottom panel is icon as cross. Tap to this cross. Here you can modify items. But for app drawer isnt everything option, as have user for different container (normal desktop, panel, folder).

Oops I think I may have used the term “icon” misleadingly here. Maybe an example will be easier. Say, I’ve created a grid of 10Column x 16Row in the app drawer. I’ve made a folder of size 2×1 (giving an aspect ratio of about 3:2). I have an icon image (jpg) in square shape, and I want the folder to use only the middle portion of the icon. In Buzz Launcher (homescreen only) after I select an icon-image for a folder, I can select-crop which part of the icon-image i want to adopt as the folder’s icon.

In the end I’d like to have a tile wall like this (dunno how to post a picture in comments so I put the screenshot in a link):

In short, any way to automatically crop an icon-image to fit item size? Thanks!

  4. I mean, this is not supported in LL. This function is only for LL wallpaper. Not for only icon. Maybe Pierre Hébert (autor LL) can doing new option for icon from images (crop incons).

I see. Seems I may have to manually crop the icons to fit then (until hopefully crop-icon function is added – it’s truly convenient) Thanks!

  6. Yes. Crop your image in your favorite graphics editor first.

  7. You can use the mask feature in LL’s icon settings to accomplish what you want. You just need to create a mask and apply it over the icon/image
