V12.4 is finally ready 🙂

V12.4 A brand new editor UI for Lightning Launcher.

I am really excited about this new release! It’s all about a new builtin editor where changes are directly done in the desktop: no more frequent switches between the settings screen and the home screen. The goal is to make editing in Lightning smoother, easier, faster, more fun!

For an introduction on how the new editor works, please have a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkh_RdH8FTk

I would like to say a big thanks to the beta testers, they really drove the development of this version in the right direction!

Update is in progress right now, the new version will appear soon on your device 🙂

  1. I tasted a little bit with the pre alpha, now I see this video. I must say, wow, looks very great.

I will keep checking google play for the update. Hardly can’t wait to dive in. I bought it also for my children, now they can remove the pre alpha. I installed that to see if they liked it. And yes they liked the customization very much. Made there device just as cool as there mother, they said. ha ha. Thumbs up.

  2. Wow! Lightning is going to take over the world one day;)

  3. Amazing, I loved the new desktop editor. It looks like a canvas! 😀

Looking forward to the enhancements on the icon search!

  4. I’ve decided to give it a go to this launcher again with a fresh new rom and hoping that the lags will fade away… Now tell me this, why pretty much every single theme for this launcher is a must pay? Who does the themes for this? And if you people could give me a link to a tutorial to create themes I’ll be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Where are you seeing lags exactly?

    2. I reject your premise for starters. There’s plenty of free templates in the private community. Just go there and put in a request to join.

The ones that charge a small fee are the ones that have spent hours, days, weeks, maybe more, inventing something that they think others would pay to have. Free market, you know?

    3. Any user that feels like it, and has the free time can make and share/publish a template.

    4. There isn’t really a tutorial for that. Just make a setup that YOU like and share the template in the community… Or charge for it, if you think people might pay.

If you have any specific questions, there are plenty of people willing to point you in the right direction, or even walk you through anything you can’t figure out.

Long press on the different options will take you to an explanation too.

  6. +Chris Chastain as I’ve explained a while ago in one of my posts, I’ve noticed some lags while opening the app drawer ( now I know that it’s an android problem), lagging when swiping between pages, etc etc etc, I was suspicious that the problem was in the ROM I was using, just changed and everything seem fine so far…

There’s a private community for the themes? Didn’t know that… Is it supported by the launcher creator? Because it would be nice to have a link (on the launcher or on the Google play description) to get people knowing about this… Ive seen alot of complains about the themes…templates available on the Google play, there are around 20 themes available and only 2 or 3 are free ( and in my honest opinion they are horrible.)

    Thanks for the fast reply.

(and sorry for any English errors 🙂 )

  7. By the way, there is a tutorial for making templates eheh, just what I wanted to start… (: http://www.pierrox.net/cmsms/applications/lightning-launcher/templates.html

Back to the original post, great changes on the customization tools… Great job.

  8. Hyu Bssassa, your English is fine.

That link is a good one but it’s more about building your template into an apk, than just making a theme.

If you want to delve into that, after designing and exporting a template, you may want to check out AIDE on the playstore.

It allows you to build an apk right on your phone and it’s MUCH smaller than installing Android Studio or Eclipse on your pc.

  9. CK Portable says:

    Beautiful editor. Nice work!

  10. CK Portable says:

? Is there a way to dragdrop desktop items into a folder?

And I dont see a way to make 2 label lines the default, for app drawer / desktop.

  11. CK Portable Menu Button – Add Item – Folder , then press for 2 seconds on the open folder and choose the desired items.

  12. CK Portable, if you long press on desktop and go to edit layout, WITHOUT selecting an item, the things you set there become the defaults for that container.

In your case, that means go to Text tab and set the label to 2 lines.

  13. CK Portable says:

    Chris Chastain thanks.

  14. CK Portable says:

Dragdrop working now.. in and out of edit mode. Very strange it was not before, I tried many times… it would only stack, is there a settng for that?

  15. Maybe the duration before the folder is activated for drop is too long?

  16. CK Portable says:

On hover shows fast, then drop ready shows. It was not even showing hover. Since noone else had this, probably my phone or user err. Its ok now.

  17. Maybe I’m just missing it, but how do you change the z order of a widget with the new UI?

  18. The 4 buttons across the bottom of the geometry editor

  19. Thanks! I found it right after I posted.

  20. Hello where i can login to beta test?

By the way thanks for best launcher I ever seen. This is must have app 🙂

  21. Pierre Hébert  V12.5. is out from 21.6.2015 😉

  22. Rich F says:
