Hi guys!

Hi guys! I’m just getting started with Lightning Launcher and so far I think it’s awesome, especially for someone like me who will quite happily waste a week messing about with my home screen only to reset it and start again.

I have a question regarding panels (apologies if this has been covered before!). Is there any way of running an app inside a panel (chrome or g+ for example)? If so, is there also a way to run Google Now in a panel, essentially emulating KitKat where a swipe left brings up Google Now without actually leaving your home screen.

So far as I know this pops up a little, but the answer is currently no. However in the last day or two Pierre has talked about a few large ideas in that direction, but I can’t remember whether it was in reply to something or an actual post.

Thanks for the reply Steve Parkin. Watch this space then I guess 🙂

I’ll have a dig around for those comments from Pierre

That said… A kludge is possible. Just thought of it.

Get an icon and remove the text and image.

Resize it to fill the first two columns on the left.

Move it to the back so it’s under everything else.

    Pin it in place.

Edit it and go to the + tab.

On swipe right add a gesture to “launch application” then select Google search.

I’ve done this with swipe up on my all apps icon going to settings>apps

It has been discussed before, but I couldn’t find the post, sorry… Basically this is not possible for security reason. You cannot embed screen from other apps because you could spy their data. This is technically possible, but only for apps belonging to the same developer (so there is no real security problem here).

Steve Parkin Cheers for the suggestion, doesn’t really do what I’m after though, although you already know that, hence the use of ‘kludge’ 🙂

Enrique Jimenez if you could point me to that post that would cool (if you can find it obviously!)

Ah, that’s fair enough Pierre Hébert

In my ignorance I kind of saw it working like an old skool html iframe so it just displays the ‘external’ content within the frame but understand why it wouldn’t be possible.

There’s a launcher called ‘Lucid Launcher’ which has Chrome browser as one screen and also the app drawer. The Chrome browser is a bit pointless as it’s essentially just the Google homepage but the idea is kind of good.

Actually this is not the browser itself, but a “WebView” which is a standard Android component, on which several other browsers are built. Unfortunately this integration is limited to the browser, but I like the iframe comparison.

In the past there was a plugin for LL to display a webview, but it is now longer available.

Thanks for the explanation Pierre Hébert.

Looks like I’ll stick to placing full screen grabs on pages to give the illusion! 😛

Great job by the way. I’ll be upgrading to Extreme… once I’ve got the hang of all the features!

I have to admit that quick browser feature in Lucid Launchers well cool i tried making it in LLX but failed. My idea was to use a full screen tasker scene with a webview element and have it slide in and launch whenever I swiped my homescreen. It worked great but the only problem was I couldn’t find a way to have the swipe scroll my desktop and then launch the tasker scene which would give the illusion that the browser was on a seperate page. Was fun trying though 🙂
