What version should we target?

What version should we target? I am preparing using LLX, added some LL Action shortcuts and Dynamic Text. Loaded a backup into LL on another device, text simply vanished, but actions caused errors when clicked.

Also I found an obstacle: adding a Go to Desktop and Position majorly failed when loaded on a device with not only different resolution but also different aspect ratio. Hoped LL(X) would take care of that and transform the coordinates.

Third thing: should the theme be more some sort of a feature showcase or a basic desktop pretty much usable from start for new users? I’m working on the later one, thinking a theme demonstrating as much features as possible should be downloadable as some kind of tutorial, but not a default theme. This might frighten new users.

I agree with your last opinion : default theme should be simple, easy-to-understand and showing enough of LL possibilities to make LL attractive for new users. Then, more complex themes should be available for downloading either from Play Store either from internal downloading tool inside LL (i have seen that in other launchers).

Dynamic text should be optional. They can be added to the LLX layout, but removing them in the LL layout should not hurt too much.

Regarding shortcuts and positions (and everything linked with size and screen ratio), this won’t work with a backup but only with a template. The reason is that the backup need to be an exact copy for a device, the template aim is to be shared across users and devices. You can export as a template file, now what is missing is to import this file without an APK.

I also agree with the fact that the default layout need be easy to understand, and complexity must be a progressive thing.

Pierre Hébert So shortcuts should work? Great. Importing LLX backup in LL causes shortcuts to prompt for associated program. Seems testing on multiple devices is not as easy. See whether I can build an apk.

Yes the template importer takes care of translating shortcuts and scaling sizes. In the future I will add an autodetection of the file type so that the launcher can switch to the appropriate loading mechanism, and not only use the backup path.
