Just earlier today, i was able to crash lightning launcherby trying to place a simple shortcut (thankfully it only happened when trying to place THAT ONE). Received the update and tried again. This time it allowed me to send a bug report. I decided to cancel because… Well it was nothing new. But upon cancellation, it decided i wanted to open my Amazon app to the last thing i looked at before i closed the app. I couldn’t believe it.

Let me summary the steps, and correct me:

Place an app in the desktop.

Set the long tap event of the app to ‘show app shortcuts’.

Long tap the app. A list of shortcuts is shown.

Long tap one of the shortcuts, a new item is created, release the finger to place it.

    Crash.

Is this correct? Does it happens every time? Does it happens with a specific app only?

It happens with the specific app only. Just passing the shortcut crashes. That’s not the ENTIRE issue, though. Obviously there’s something wrong with that one app that doesn’t want that shortcut on my home screen. But when i cancelled the report, it decided to open my Amazon app to the last item i saw. That’s the part that I’m worried about really

When the launcher crashes I’ve seen two possible outcomes based on android and devices versions.

Some will simply show a black screen with the ‘choose a launcher to run’ option.

Some others reopens an app. Normally it is the last used one, but maybe it is the last non-closed one, or alphabetically, or whatever android decides. Not sure why you are worried, android decided to open Amazon, and so it was opened showing the last item you saw. The launcher nor Amazon has nothing to do with that decision.

TrianguloY Ah ok. That explains it. Usually it’s the little window asking which launcher i wanna use. Its the first time i recall that it’s ever decided to open an app so it startled me. At least now i know it’s not the launcher going crazy on me.

Chrome. It’s the ‘web shortcut’ shortcut. Funny part is that lightning launcher isn’t the only one crashing. I’ll go ahead and try to send the report. Where would you like me yo send it?

To the default email in the crash report (if you are using the beta). Unfotunately I don’t use this mailbox because it’s overloaded of spam but I’ll find you.

Thanks, received it. I confirm this is a “permission denial” error, the launcher is not allowed to pick the shortcut. This might be fixed by contacting the author of the app and requesting to add ‘android:exported=”true” ‘ in its ‘PickerDialogBuilder’ activity.

The only thing I can do at the moment is prevent the crash.

Pierre Hébert I kinda figured it was an issue with the app itself (for some reason). I’ll admit i had no clue what the issue was exactly, but Good luck getting google to fix that with the garbage they have been pulling on developers like you (not allowed to use sms anymore, can’t use accessibility service… What else did they pull?).

The part that had me thinking I needed to bathe my phone in holy water is when i cancelled the report and my Amazon app opened for no reason.
