V12.6 stable, with the floating desktop feature.

V12.6 stable, with the floating desktop feature.

It took me more than two months to build this version, but at last it is here. I hope it was worth the wait!

Pierre Hébert Does this build fix the issue with Lollipop Samsung devices? 😀

No, unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce it at the moment.

Could I suggest to you Sergio Azar as tester? He finds the problem on my template, maybe him can help you.

No, I need to make it run on a samsung device, debug, and proceed with trials and errors. I more or less understand what the problem is but I have no chance to fix it blindly. It seems that an optimization has been put in the framework that skips refreshes. As a consequence I need to find why it has been optimized this way (on Samsung 5.1 only?) and how to force an update the right way. Testing would only help once I have something to test.

In fact this domain was mostly here (and online) since a few months but I only setup redirections this morning, making it the single entry point for the app.

Simone Boccuzzi I don’t have issue on beta : Note2 5.1 (resurrection remix ROM) but perhaps not using the same as you

    Bruno-Isa LAMOUR-ARNOULD I meant Lollipop Touchwiz…

A Samsung device with AOSP based ROM works as any other Nexus or any other device with custom ROM.

Almost, although it might also depends on the hardware: some drivers, including the graphics one, are shipped in binary form by the manufacturer. Hence all ROMs, even AOSP, will share the same binary driver because there is no other way to do, and the consequence is that the behavior of the driver will be the same on all ROMs (more or less). That said, I don’t think the issue here is at the driver level but above, in a modified Android framework.

Simone Boccuzzi Pierre Hébert what exactly is the “Lollipop Samsung” issue with LL? If it’s the one I have, that would be nice to know it’s common among others with similar specs.

I have a Note 4 on Lollipop and when I bring up a floating desk it freezes my whole phone for about 10 seconds or so then I can’t use the floating desk because it won’t react. I wanted to use mine as a replacement app drawer and it takes about a literal minute to scroll through.

There are various issues with Samsung firmwares… One of which is a refresh issue creating some kind of freeze, although touching the screen immediately update the display.

Freezing without possible interaction is not a known issue however. This is probably linked with the android surface manager. If you have a desktop wallpaper or background color for the floating screen try to disable it.

Going old school and sporting a CM 4.4 straight out of sources on my Note 2. I have had a freeze a few times, and I am new to Lighting Launcher, since this past Saturday. I will keep a closer look. The times it happened, I blamed something that I may have been doing.

It may be completely unrelated but I have noticed that switching to App Drawer to be abnormally slow — in comparison to other launchers and I do not have that many apps.

I will say that yes, having a wall paper on the floating desktop did seem to hang the screen a few times so what I did was, I changed it to a darker tint, with no wallpaper. Also, I had put a widget but noticed that it was not updating, neither were the badges I had placed on the floating window. so I took it off as well and recreated the badges, not they seem to work. I do not recall getting any hangs after that… yet.

Regarding freezes there are usually two reasons, out of memory and desktop wallpaper. This wallpaper uses android features which seem to be supported with a varying degree of quality depending on devices. If it causes issues, what you can do is to use a blank item instead and set an image for its background.

The app drawer is not the best thing in Lightning, and although it is not fast, it shouldn’t be that slow neither. It may be due to the animation between home and app drawer backgrounds too.

4.4 is not that old school 😉 And this version works better than some other.

I know Pierre. I was joking. 😉 I actually find 4.4 pretty stable and when it comes to mods and ROMs in general, they are way more mature than many LP ROMs which can still be a bit buggy — at least for my device, that is way I am on 4.4 than 5.1.1
