Yet another poll, you have been warned, lol 🙂

Some major launchers (but not all) replace the current system wallpaper with their own art upon installation.

As for myself I dislike that, but that’s rather logical to do that after all.

Since I am working on the default setup, I am thinking at setting a custom wallpaper too. This would be some kind of generated picture, probably with some gradient or something like that. The idea would be to match the app and default setup color scheme.

Lightning has the ability to use a “desktop” wallpaper, which would avoid changing the current system wallpaper, but unfortunately it has a performance penalty on some devices and furthermore it does not scroll, so I would prefer not to use this option.

Would you mind if Lightning set a custom wallpaper upon install ?

I don’t mind what’s put up in install, as long as I can change it. I hate launchers that lock you in … example, many people hate that you can’t get rid of Google’s search bar in Google Now … and one of the main reasons they install a different launcher.

I think changing the wallpaper on install get a better idea of the launcher to the user. Anyway, when you install a launcher, it is for customizing, so you probably are going to change things anyway (install a template or build one) so if you don’t like the new wallpaper, you can always change it later

Exactly what Emmanuel Lapierre said, moreover it will express llx identity, maybe just display an alert that shows how to change it. A sort of quick tutorial (I believe you did it)

Maybe change it and then ask the user if they want it changed back to what it was.

I would ask, much like the dialog when loading a template. You could always “tint” the wallpaper. And I think I asked for this before, but it would be cool if there was a gradient on the tint feature. 😉

I like every improvement or transformation but as my phone have low memory anything about “performance penalty” will be a very sensitive things to me

    🙂

Pierre Hébert, please keep everything efficient or even have more efficient way to use the resources. Thank you.

Abednego JS I am sad to say that, but some “new” phones don’t run better than older one. Android has become fat when compared with 2.x versions. Low memory is very relative, sometimes I miss my good old Motorola: with lower memory it was often snappier than my current phone, because apps were more efficient and not necessarily with much less features.

New phones compensate it with more memory and more powerful cpu… I just hope LLX remains lightweight even after many features added, its a LIGHTNING.

    😀

The problem with most phone manufacturers that use Android is that they take stock Android and bloat it up with crap … a lot of which runs in the background consuming memory and battery.

Yeah, mine is constantly stopping and restarting apps when switching. When I look at logs I see a myriad of apps that I don’t use being started and stopped because they are frequently awaken by some event

Or without bloat app but use minimum hardware (+ disabling some stock features) like mine

Pierre Hébert after the last gmail update, I get a toast almost every minute displaying “unfortunately, gmail has stopped”, even though it and the notifications seem to function correctly. I love it now that I can access all of my email addresses, including my pop 3 email from work, but it drives me insane! Of course I have reported it several times, but Google does not provide the same amazing support that I’m used to getting from LLx 😉
