Beta 8.7b1
(and this time it is on the beta channel only, not on the production one!)
This early release is for members of the community that don’t fear to be on the bleeding edge 😉 It brings improvements in various areas.
Brand new action : “Open folder”. This would be nice if you could stress test this feature as it is was bit tricky to implement. And it will work with app drawer folders too ! Once coupled with the soon to be released folder placement options, I think it will be terrific !
Full changelog:

– improved icon pack support (Emre, Gustavo, this one is for you 😉 )
– when hit while flinging, a stop point will not stop the scroll, but only lock the scrolling in the direction it is acting on (for diagonal’ers like TrianguloY)
– fixed a problem with unread sms count not always updated (for… everybody !)
– fix dynamic text tabs (Gnudest, single axis pin is back )
– fix a bug with styles that prevented the use of this feature (crash and other problems, special thanks to Michael)

This includes:
– Stop points that also stop dragging, not just scrolling
– Stop points in a given direction (up, down, left, right)
– Snap to stop point
That’s for the good news. Now for the bad: I removed the older “Use auto scroll stops” option, it was really odd to keep it. I recommend to either use Snap to pages, or use new stop points.
Also there is a new option in the General section to show stop points even if not in edit mode. This should help when setting up stop points.
This version is available to anyone : I wanted to publish it as beta first, but I incorrectly pushed the button, et voila, it is on the production channel now, lol.

Not as huge as KitKat, but this is nevertheless the greatest version of LL to date 😉
It essentially brings support for pinning items outside of the screen (uncheck the honor pinned items option in the general section for this) and it also comes with a fair number of bugfixes. All in one this is an intermediate release that solves urgent issues, not a big step forward.
Stop points are essentially working now and a beta will appear somewhere at the beginning of the next week. Stay tuned !
]]>I would like to experiment something: since Google Play allows beta to be downloaded in place of the “Release”…
And as a starting point, 8.5b1 adds a new “honour pinned items in edit mode” option (on by default). Unchecking it will disable pinning while in edit mode and allow items to be pinned outside of the screen. 8.5b1 also fixes a problem with “Show status bar” action when used through a shortcut.

The most important change is support for sharing templates through APKs.
But a bunch of other minor improvements and bug fixes are also included:
– add close topmost folder and close all folders action
– add events screen on/off
– add search app action
– add battery level to dynamic text
– don’t apply alpha on stop points and pinned item locks
– when adding an item in free mode use the current zoom factor to scale the item accordingly
– don’t scale handles around items in edit mode when zooming in/out
– use an alternate shortcut selection dialog that should solve some of them not appearing in the list
– fix a bug with rotation in free mode on newest Android version
– fix a bug with animations (could be seen by flinging, then hitting the back key)
– fix a problem with pinned item configuration in the adanced settings screen
– fix a problem with drag&drop over pinned folders
– fix menu position in some situation
– revised wallpaper offset computation (will work better with some live wallpapers)
– fix some parameters not being set properly when returning to the home screen from the app drawer (for instance wallpaper size)
– fix a problem with wallpaper when switching between fully opaque and translucent background color
– fix app drawer icon background not being displayed upon restart (background is still there anyway)
– when hiding an item in the app drawer in edit mode, hide handles too
Next in the queue are stop points !
]]>Beta Tester wanted !
Better template sharing using APK is coming. What it does mean is that it will be possible to download APKs from the Play Store and apply them in LL. The opposite is also true: it will be possible to export a setup from LL and share it on Google Play, with all the inherent benefits for themers.
The Theme Manager app will be deprecated soon in favor of this alternate and better way to share templates. It will continue to work but the app will be unpublished.
Support for widgets is better than in the theme manager but still limited yet: starting at Android 4.1 LL will be able to recreate widgets, but not their data. I hope to improve this in the future.
Curiously for a beta, this version also contains a lot of bug fixes ! So it should be quite safe to use, as only the template related part is new. If you don’t use templates, then it will probably run better that the current 8.3 !

This one has mostly bug fixes in it, but also a (minor?) new feature: now you can select a different set of grid settings for portrait and landscape. It was almost there since ages but never activated. Now it is !

And I feel this is a good version.
Numerous bugs introduced in the breaking v8.0 have been fixed. Lots of them were minor issues, but not all. The widget resizing problem (dashclock, google now, etc) is solved, at last !
There are also a few new features and improvements, such as a reworked home key to make it more configurable (see new actions).
I expect to be able to work on new features starting at the end of the week… more on that in another post later !

This is mostly a bug fixes release. Though they were harmless, these bugs were nevertheless annoying for some, so I prefer not to way too long before publishing it.
