I am not able to change gestures for desktop anymore. What I have set for various gestures still work but I cannot add new gestures or change ones I already have active?? Any ideas?

Hitting a road block creating a gesture (swipe up to direct message a contact) on a sub folder within a sliding folder on my desktop. I have done this to other folders within the sliding folder but for the life of me can’t figure out how to repeat this to the sub folder. What am I missing?
