Lightning V12.2 is out of beta. You should receive the update soon, Google servers are updating 🙂
This release includes many bug fixes and several minor improvements but most importantly it includes an optimization to reduce the app drawer launch time when the number of apps is above 200 or 300. It should also help in maintaining the memory use at an acceptable level when using many apps or background images.

Edit: V12.2b2 published with bug fixes
No new feature, no bug fix, but a single change that I prefer to update unitary because it is tricky.
Various modifications in this beta aim to speed up the app drawer and large containers when they contains a lot of apps, as well as reducing the average amount of RAM used for images.
In some situations, mostly in the app drawer, you may see icons refreshing themselves, my hope is that it will not happen, or not too often.
Another area where I fear border effect is scripting. Due to the flexibility it offers, I wouldn’t be surprised is something goes wrong here.
If you don’t like to live on the bleeding edge, please skip this version, because it has the power to break things…

The update for Lightning has been rejected by Google, even though some users already received the update. Reason: “Violation of the intellectual property and impersonation or deceptive behavior provisions of the Content Policy.”

Don’t know why, and don’t know when it will be resolved.

Bug fixes again, no new feature. It will in particular solve the status bar or wallpaper issues when returning to the home screen under some particular conditions.
This is no longer a beta but you may have to wait more than usual before to receive the update. The reason is that this version is published as a “staged rollout”, meaning that only a given percentage of users will receive the update first. This will allow me to check that everything looks good before to fully release the app. If all goes well it shouldn’t take much than one day or two before everybody get the update. I’ll update this post when this is done.
