Edit: V12.7b4 with various fixes and improvements
This new beta features a new screen: the hierarchical view of your desktops. It is currently fairly minimal but I sense that a lot of cool stuff could be added to this screen. At the moment it shows all items in a flat view, allows drag&drop to change items z-index, move items from a container to another, reorder desktops and quick edit access. No doubt that it will spark some ideas. (I have one or two in mind already…)
I also changed a minor thing together with a new option: the app launch animation (per item property, found in the Misc. tab). Previously the system animation was played, now the default is to play no animation. I am curious to know your feedback.
And a lot of fixes…

There’s two notable differences regarding icon packs in this version.
Firstly the last selected icon pack for a container is saved, meaning that all new app or shortcut added to the container will also be themed using the icon pack (as long as it is still installed). No need to manually apply the icon pack again.
Secondly I changed the way the icon scale parameter is handled when applying an icon pack. It is used only for items without matching icon in the pack and with a background. It works fine with a few packs I tested, but it could break other packs as well.
There’s also two new container events to get notified of item addition or removal. This can be used to automatically configure new apps for instance…

]]>In a previous post, Lukas Morawietz suggested to use a ticketing system to manage bug reports and feature requests.
How to use it?
– bug reports and feature suggestion can be added anonymously, or you can register an account if you want more control and notifications regarding the process.
– for the moment, please continue to post bugs and requests here, then either add a new task in Flyspray yourself, or I’ll do it later. In the future posting could become optional if you think there is nothing to discuss about the bug or request.
– if something is unclear or doesn’t work, please let me know
I have a long list of things to push in Flyspray, I’ll do this the next week, but feel free to add older tickets if you wish.
Once we get used to this new tool, I will update links and procedures so that it becomes the primary and only way to manage tickets.

A new version of Lightning Launcher is online, with the brand new “Floating Desktop” feature! It remained a long time in beta, but it’s now available in the stable channel for everyone – version 12.6. Hooray!
A floating desktop is a desktop that can be displayed anywhere, anytime. Just swipe from an edge of your screen and the floating desktop will be displayed above any other app, always ready to launch apps or display widgets, just when you need it. And since this is a Lightning desktop, you can use pretty much the same features as found in a regular desktop: widgets, folders, panels, scripting and so on. Enjoy!

First goal: release the current beta as stable. Then I’ll start to process other non beta specific bugs and feature requests.
Because I have been offline for a while, I lost track of the exact status of the current beta. I am going to review my personal notes and have a look at the g+ history (although I won’t dig very far in it), but help of the beta testers would help me too 🙂 Fellow Lightning Users, do you have major bugs to mention regarding the beta?

Sorry to be so quiet! I am taking a break and I’ll be back in September only.
Until then I am afraid I will remain mostly offline, don’t expect to hear from me, although I may be around during the next days 🙁
Regarding the beta, I would have liked to publish it as stable before, but I am not sure it is good enough (I don’t even remember what was its status exactly, I am fully disconnected from my computer, lol!). As a consequence it will probably have to wait for a few more weeks before to reach the stable channel.

Edit: V12.6b5 to fix a crash in settings
A handful of bug fixes in this update.
Please note that there are still a couple issues with the floating desktop not being updated immediately after a modification (need a restart for the background to be updated for instance). This version should nevertheless be quite usable.
