Mention was made recently of using a bug tracking service of some kind to avoid some of the many dire shortcomings inherent in the design of Google+. Frankly, it’s a terrible system, and if it wasn’t made by Google, it would wither and wilt away in obscurity, and deservedly so, but I digress.

Currently, Google+ is not only being used as a bug tracker, it’s also being used as a forum and a wiki. It is none of these things, and it fails miserably as a substitute for them. Honestly, for me, the worst thing about Lightning Launcher, is Google+.

Google+ is unstructured, slow, ugly, locked in, and borderline unsearchable. It barely functions as a social network, let alone in any other capacity. Let’s please, please, please talk about migrating to usable software or services.

Icon shaders should be supported.

Icon shaders should be supported. This was actually mentioned a few month ago (https://plus.google.com/+TaavoAllik/posts/AQtdZ9S9LA3), but nothing came of it. Here’s how shaders work from the theme creator’s point of view (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48191209&postcount=1338).

I’ve looked for information on how to implement this, but all I’ve found is noshader.xml (https://github.com/AnderWeb/ADW.Theme-Template/blob/e066fd10436929bcec9dfe6e48e81c345da441dc/res/xml/noshader.xml) which offers some small additional insight, and IconShader.java (https://github.com/stayboogy/CM7.2_source_android/blob/00817814444adcab63cb09cf2ddba621d698456e/packages/apps/ADWLauncher/src/com/android/launcher/IconShader.java) which seems related but I’m not sure how exactly.

Sorry this isn’t more helpful :/

I’ve created two icon themes.

I’ve created two icon themes. They’re not really icon packs, as the rely solely on icon masking, but they’re still pretty cool (at least I think so).

Crinkle: crinkly, white, irregular octagon – free!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bdjnk.android.crinkle

Brushed: round, inlaid, brushed aluminum – cheap!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bdjnk.android.brushed

Now to use to use these icons to make something more interesting than a desktop full of icons 😉

edit: G+’s photo system is bizarre.

Pinning grid attached works differently via scripting vs other methods (the menu’s ‘pin’ option, and the ‘customize item’ ‘pin mode’ radio select). Via non-script methods, items are pinned to their current position in the view (vertically at least). This is as expected. Via scripts, items appear to be pinned at their position relative to the home screen / page. If they’re not on the home screen / page, this effectively causes them to vanish forever (or until unpinned via scripting, as there seems to be no other way to reach them…).

I tested using this simple, ‘item menu’ attached, script:

LL.getEvent().getItem().getProperties().edit().setString(“i.pinMode”, “XY”).commit();

Certain icon packs (the kind where masks and backgrounds are the primary / sole icon theming mechanism) don’t apply properly. One of the most obviously wrong examples is Cubes by AVDesign (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AVDesign.cube), but several others I’ve tried fail or only partially succeed.
