v8.7 is ready!
And there is a BIG changelog. I don’t even know myself how it could grow this way. Maybe this has something to do with the beta…
Since the v8.6b1 release:
– add folder placement options as well as new animations (this is an easy way to create side bars)
– add open folder action
– add an option to close other folders when opening a new one, and the auto close option will now also work for the desktop
– add support for nine patches (item box and folder window)
– better backup/restore screen
– add support for label selection in Unread Gmail Dynamic Text
– add rotation change events (useful to configure one desktop per orientation for instance)
– improved icon pack support (mask)
– add copy to desktop menu item (only for apps and shortcuts)
– scale stop points when they do not fit in their cell, instead of truncating them (better for small grids)
– add match edge options for stop points
– remove hardcoded ‘close folder’ action in some situations
– folders are no longer automatically closed when returning to home with the home key so that this is consistent with the back key
– enable the dual position option for the app drawer too
– add desktop&position launcher action (same as the shortcut, but easier to configure)
– fixed a problem with unread sms count not always updated
– fix dynamic text tabs
– fix a bug with styles that prevented the use of this feature (crash and other problems)
– fix several bugs with stop points (direction not taken into account, wrong vertical snap and some problems with barrier)
– fix direct dial shortcuts when use in item or gesture events on some devices
– fix a few other minor bugs
Have fun !
]]>Question to beta testers : how does the latest beta work for you
One thing is in particular is annoying me : Patrick and Bryan reported an issue with disappearing items. Has anyone else experienced this issue ?
]]>Fourth 8.7 beta
Oh well, I thought the previous beta was the last one, but I made so many changes that I prefer to publish one more.
Don’t be afraid, I didn’t break everything – I hope 😉 But a particular bug required some important architecture changes, and also I added support for nine patch. This needs some experimentation before to be thrown into the wild.
Wondering what is a nine patch ? More infos here : http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/2d-graphics.html#nine-patch
More precisely those nine patches will allow this kind of effect:
– way better item selection effect (not a square anymore, but more complex shape/style is possible, such as button style items
– shadows
– rounded corner
– custom borders
In LL, nine patches can be configured in the box section. This applies to both items and folders window. Please read the doc first (long tap on the setting), I put a link to sample nine patches here.
Using nine patches is not, from far, the easiest to do. But this is so great that “_insane or not, it had to be done_” 😉

Is it only me or some post(s) have disappeared ?
How to prevent navigation to an area
How to prevent navigation to an area
The purpose is to prevent scrolling in a region which should remain inaccessible, typically a corner created by using two side areas.
On the screenshot two “side bars” are visible (clock and calculator on top, camera, gallery to the right).
Prerequisites:
– LL V8.7.b3
– Option “Snap to pages” is off
First prevent scrolling on the corner with two SP configured as barrier : 1 and 2
Then prevent scrolling beyond the side bars (top and right) with SP 3 and 4 (also configured as snapping for easy scrolling)
Finally add SP 5 and 6 which will respectively stop vertically and horizontally on the page edges. These SP are snapping too.
This way, if you scroll up, clock and calculator will appear, but you won’t be able to scroll to the right. You need to scroll down a bit before, then scroll right to reveal camera and gallery.
]]>Third 8.7 beta (and likely the last one before GA)
If you read previous posts you already know the main new feature, but here is the full changelog anyway, a few other items are worth an update:
* add folder placement options as well as new animations (this is an easy way to create side bars)
* add copy to desktop menu item (only for apps and shortcuts)
* scale stop points when they do not fit in their cell, instead of truncating them (better for small grids)
* add match edge options for stop points
* fix several bugs with stop points (direction not taken into account, wrong vertical snap and some problems with barrier)
I expect that the folder placement options will trigger new feature requests or bug report (in some situation it reveals some weakness that were already here but not visible), so I am waiting for your feedback 😉

]]>Beta 8.7b1
(and this time it is on the beta channel only, not on the production one!)
This early release is for members of the community that don’t fear to be on the bleeding edge 😉 It brings improvements in various areas.
Brand new action : “Open folder”. This would be nice if you could stress test this feature as it is was bit tricky to implement. And it will work with app drawer folders too ! Once coupled with the soon to be released folder placement options, I think it will be terrific !
Full changelog:
– add open folder action
– better backup/restore screen (Danbar, Chris, you will like it!)
– add support for label selection in Unread Gmail Dynamic Text
– improved icon pack support (Emre, Gustavo, this one is for you 😉 )
– when hit while flinging, a stop point will not stop the scroll, but only lock the scrolling in the direction it is acting on (for diagonal’ers like TrianguloY)
– fixed a problem with unread sms count not always updated (for… everybody !)
– fix dynamic text tabs (Gnudest, single axis pin is back )
– fix a bug with styles that prevented the use of this feature (crash and other problems, special thanks to Michael)
Enjoy !

]]>Following a discussion with Chris sledge and +Keith Rogers, here is a short tutorial on how to share your setup…
1) make sure to set the home desktop so that peoples loading your theme will start with the right home desktop.
2) export your setup using “Customize Lightning / Export for APK”. You are asked which desktop(s) you want to export. This is useful when you have several desktops, the one you use, and the other(s) you want to share. The operation will create a file named “Template” located in “/sdcard/LightningLauncher”.
3) copy this Template file on your PC, and point your browser (please use Firefox at the moment) on http://www.pierrox.net/android/applications/lightning_launcher/packager/packager.html
4) set a package name, upload the file and an icon for the APK, and once files are uploaded, click on “Download source package”. This will download a zip: unzip it somewhere on your PC.
5) launch Eclipse or Android Studio (easiest is to download adt-bundle here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html)
6) import the project by browsing the package you previously downloaded and unzip at step 4
7) build it and export it (a tutorial using Eclipse here: http://www.programmingodyssey.com/2013/01/create-signed-android-application-using.html)
Then it is up to you to share your APK the way you want (Google Play, other app stores, by email, on your web site, etc.).
Hope this helps !
